Valentine’s Day: Sweet, Sinful, Sad or Sucky?

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and it’s a day that can mean so many different things:

It can be a night out, dressed up and full of chocolate, candies and promises.

An evening at home, daring and passionate.

It can be a day when you’re angry and happy to be single, or a day of full of frustration, if you’re not happy, if you’ve lost someone, or maybe are about to.

Or maybe it’s that first Valentine’s Day. The first crazy crush, the first moment when flirting turns into something more.

  1. Tinsley Warren says:

The timer went off the same time I heard the ding of the doorbell. Running around like a headless chicken I grabbed the lasagna out of the oven and then raced to the front door.

I smoothed down my chaotic hair before I opened the door.

The sight before me made everything I had done that day worth it and then some. Her brown locks framed her face in such a way that it made her eyes look like melted chocolate. The smile on her lips had my holding back the urge to pull her into my apartment and have her against the door.

“Happy Valentines Day,” I said as I pressed a kiss to her soft lips.

“Same to you.” Her eyes sparkled as she walked in, clutching her peacoat to her slim frame.

“I made dinner.” I motioned to the table, looking at my romantic display. But the sound of her coat hitting the wooden floor grabbed my attention.

She was standing there in some sexy outfit you’d see on a Victoria Secret runway. I’m talking lingerie, sexy.

My dick approved as he saluted her.

“I thought I could be dinner.”

I liked her idea better than mine.

Her breath hitched as his fingertips trailed down the column of her throat. He’d never even dared graze Silvia’s arm before, leaving her wondering what exactly they were doing.

“Alex?” His chiseled face was so close, but she didn’t dare reciprocate the contact, fearing he would float away like a dream.

“Haven’t you ever wondered?” A whisper of touch traced her collarbone, leaving her breathless and anxious for more. “Didn’t you ever see my longing? The tremble of my fingers as they itched to pull you near. To feel what it would be like to have you in my arms? Haven’t you ever thought about it?” He gently tilted her face up, willing her to gaze into his crystal blue eyes.

She shook her head, trying to make sense of his heartfelt words. “Why now?”

Alex’s lips pressed behind her ear and whispered, “It’s Valentine’s Day. The day us lonely hearts trip over our tongues in hopes of having our love reciprocated by someone we’ve been pining over for years.”

Silvia gasped, not realizing how long he’d been hoping. “I love you too, you know.”

His follow up kiss was better than all the grand gestures she could have imagined

  3. A thin curtain heralded the entrance to the bedchamber. Through the sheer fabric, their marriage bed awaited. Bound together since childhood, this night was the culmination of their parents’ wishes: two powerful families, finally joined on this St. Valentine’s Day.

They stood side by side, each unsure of the other’s thoughts. She was innocent, but not ignorant of what would transpire once they stepped through; he was experienced and eager to seek pleasure with his new bride. He grasped her hand and led her inside.

He averted his eyes as she undressed, and once she was settled in bed, he disrobed and joined her.

“I won’t hurt you. I swear, I will be gentle.” He reached out and stroked her hair. “I love you,” he said, and bent down to kiss her.

His naked warmth, his tender caresses stoked a fire in her heart. She’d always been fond of him, of course, but this…this was nothing like she expected.

He whispered sweet words into her skin, touched her in places that made her blood sing. She could no longer lie still as her mother had instructed.

So she opened her arms, and returned his ardor with equal passion.

  4. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. They’d struggled for years, through children, unemployment, illness. If there was anything constant in their lives, it was that they would get through it together.

This was supposed to be the start of their golden years. It was supposed to be the time when they could finally relax and truly enjoy each other rather than stand back to back, facing the world with all they had.

The table was set, the candles ready to be lit, the wine still chilling, but he was gone. She sat in the empty space he’d left behind as the silent ambulance drove away, wondering what was she supposed to do now that her Valentine had left her behind.

  5. “I screwed up. I’m sorry.”

“That’s the last thing I expected from you, when you said you wanted to meet me after all this time.”

“The look in your eyes and in his that night has haunted me for so long.”

“How so? I don’t recall him at all from that night.”

“He was there when I answered the door to you, standing there with those lovely pink blooms and a Valentine’s Day card. He heard heard me turn you down.”

    “Oh.”

“I never told you because I didn’t want to hurt your pride any more than I already had. We never really spoke openly again.”

“It’s okay, it’s been water over the dam. Others hurt me far more after that night.”

“We’ve all been hurt by life if we truly lived. My pain began that night.”

“Your profile suggested you weren’t with him any longer.”

“We’ve been done a long time. That night he looked so smug, arrogant, like he’d won at a game. It should have told me everything. I should have shown him the door.”

    “And now?”

“I won’t screw up this Valentine’s Day. Come on over to my place.”

“My eyes look happy this time, yes?”

  6. Gingerandgreen says:

    ‘My funny valentine…’

Frank’s croon was meant to be our ironic ode to St Valentine, but once the wine became whiskey and the laughter turned to tears, somewhere in the cloud of mingled perfume we allowed pride to fall with our clothing.

The soundtrack danced around an unplanned outcome.

I stared at you astride my bare skin with wonder. Your dark hair shadowed your lovely face, but your ardour was plain in the red stain of your lips. Your breasts were as pale as your face, and as sweet.

‘You make me smile with my heart…’

The serious intensity between us grew until the music was muffled, as though we were under water. We were deep sea diving for pearls in oysters, and the cliché soothed my anxious breath as surely as the warmth of your soft flesh against mine.

    ‘Unphotographable…’

    Wet. Smooth. Delectable. Female. Mine.

    My funny Sapphic Valentine.

  7. Our fingers are about to touch.

    He’s close.

The wind ruffles our hair and the soft fabric of my dress.

Love. So young. So reckless. So sweet.

    Our fingers twitch.

Side by side, we look at the nature in front of us. It’s soothing.

    My racing heart needs it.

I glance at him every few seconds to make sure he’s here–that he’s real.

He smiles without facing me, but I see it. He inches closer.

    “Touch me,” I beg.

    “Touch me first,” he says.

    So silly.

I grip the skirt of my dress for a second, nervous with anticipation. And then his hand is intertwined with mine.

I don’t know who reached first. All that matters is that we’re connected.

    My body vibrates with excitement.

    This boy. I love him.

    “I love you,” he says.

    I squeeze his hand tighter.

“Are you ready?” he asks. I nod. “Are you sure?”

    “Yes.”

He turns to face me, and takes my other hand. He searches my eyes for a minute before kissing my wrists.

    “Let’s go,” he says.

Together, we walk down the path ahead of us.

Married at eighteen and on Valentine’s Day.

Love. So young. So reckless. So sweet.
